Tom Anderson has lived and worked in Western North Carolina since 2016. On April 1, 2023, he passed away peacefully at his home in Waynesville.

He loved the Skyland Camp & Retreats community, and found purpose and belonging in this space. This page is dedicated to his memory.

When Tom moved to Clyde, North Carolina in 2016, he fell in love with the mountains, the greater region, and especially with the micro-community of Skyland Camp & Retreats.

For years, he knew Skyland from a camper-dad perspective, but in 2016, he began to experience Skyland from the perspective of a staff member, a community contributor and a FRIEND.

If you’re ever on Skyland Hill, you’ll see his handiwork. He re-built stairs, helped with landscaping and fences, and donated several live-edge benches and tables that he made that are used each and every day.

For the past seven years, Tom’s closest friends and community support have been through his connection with Skyland Camp & Retreats. We find it fitting to allow others to remember his memory through donating to one of Skyland’s three funds.

Skyland Facility Improvements

Your donation will support general facility improvements at Skyland, including grounds, fencing, games courts, pool, tennis courts, archery range, kitchen, trails, and any equipment used in each of those.

Examples of upgrades and improvements include annual maintenance of Tranquility Trail, kitchen and pantry upgrades, tennis court resurfacing, games courts maintenance, pool equipment and maintenance, archery equipment and more.

Skyland Equine Program

Your donation will support Skyland’s on-going equine operations, including barn maintenance, arena improvements, as well as equipment used in Skyland Equine’s leadership development and experiential education programs.

Skyland Campership Fund

The Campership Fund is managed through the American Camp Association (ACA), a nonprofit public benefit corporation focused on ensuring quality camp programming, so your donation is 100% tax deductible.

Your contribution, payable to the “ACA – Skyland Camp,” is designated to the Skyland’s Campership Fund, and directly funds camperships for Skyland girls whose families demonstrate financial need.
