01. GIRL’S CAMP
SKYLAND TRADITIONS
More than ten decades of Skyland campers have been engaging in some of the same activities, singing some of the same songs, and honoring the same values. These time-honored traditions are a vital part of the camp experience.
CAMP TEAMS
THE TALLYHOS & TROSSACHS
Skyland’s two camp teams—the Tallyhos and the Trossachs—have provided campers with lessons in sportsmanship and friendly competition for generations. Each camper is assigned to a team and plays volleyball, ring tennis or Newcomb ball, practicing the skills they learn in Games class. While the girls love the competition, best friends from opposing teams are always arm-in-arm after the games are over. .
SKYLAND CAMPERS SING-A-LING-A-LING
CAMP SONGS
Song Night is where we get loud and rowdy, singing songs from Skyland’s songbook, with some songs dating back to the camp’s founding! While the piano rings out, girls join in with hand motions and shouted choruses for a rousing evening.
MID-DAY
MAIL CALL
Every day at 1 o’clock, morning activities end and campers rush to the window of the Mail Room to receive letters from friends and family back home. Campers love sending and receiving “snail mail” while at camp and are often writing letters during Rest Hour to send back home.
END OF CAMP
CLOSING BANQUET & BONFIRE
Each camp session ends with Skyland’s Closing Banquet and Bonfire, which helps campers and staff celebrate successes, reflect on the summer, and share laughter and tears as the session comes to an end. The banquet is a time to honor all the achievements, big and small, that happened during the session. Campers also reflect on perhaps the most beautiful thing that comes from a summer at Skyland: their newfound confidence and their many friendships.
