01. GIRL’S CAMP
DAILY ACTIVITIES
ARCHERY
Beyond hitting a bullseye, archery teaches awareness of one’s body and position, persistence, and self-control. A combination of shooting drills, practice rounds, and creative games help campers learn the art of archery using both compound and recurve bows. Classes one day may include aiming at apples on top of the targets, while another day may find the Archery Instructors leading you in a game of target tic-tac-toe to improve your aim and stance!
RIDING & HORSEMANSHIP
From campers who have never been near a horse to those who show competitively, Skyland’s Riding & Horsemanship program has a spot for everyone. At Skyland, we teach English (Hunt Seat) riding. Our program subscribes to a natural horsemanship philosophy that teaches campers to work with the instincts and behaviors of horses while riding, grooming, and participating in ground-based equine activities.
GAMES
Games is the home base for our two camp teams, the Tallyhos and the Trossachs. In this activity, campers learn to play volleyball, Newcomb ball (an adapted version of volleyball for younger campers) and ring tennis (a long-standing camp tradition). Cheering erupts throughout camp on T&T days when the two teams compete. The Games activity can also include everything from soccer to basketball to team-building activities.
CULINARY ARTS
Cooking and making delicious food dishes are a fun way to awaken the senses as well as teach empowerment and self-sufficiency. Campers are supervised while exploring easy recipes and learning how to measure and create treats that taste great.
CRAFTS
The crafts program uses found, used, and natural materials for creative expression. What kind of magic can you create with a few plastic bottles, some tin cans, and sticks and leaves from around camp? Campers work with a variety of materials and can hone their techniques or let their creativity flow.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Like to sing? Dance? Perform in a one-act play? Skyland Camp has an expert staff that can bring out the best performer in everyone. In just a few weeks, the musical theatre program can produce a full Broadway, Jr. or Musical Theatre International production complete with costumes, choreography, and a role for every camper. Skit nights, camp songs, and dance parties are some of our other favorite musical theatre events.
SWIMMING
Skyland’s pool is one of our favorite places to be on a hot summer afternoon! Campers who are new to swimming can learn how to float, get comfortable putting their heads under water, and practice basic strokes. More advanced swimmers can develop their strokes and put them to the test with endurance swims, relay races, water games, and even the occasional synchronized swimming routine.
TENNIS
Skyland’s tennis program teaches fundamental skills to everyone from beginners to advanced players through both drills and games like Queen of the Court and Tennis Quidditch (seriously). At the end of the camp session, campers can put their skills to the test at our tennis tournament.
