LIFEGUARD & SWIM COUNSELOR

DIVE IN TO A GREAT SUMMER

OVERVIEW

Being a lifeguard at camp is the quintessential summer role, and for good reason! On a sunny summer day, the pool is the place to be. You will teach campers swim strokes, pool games, and guard all the Free Choice swim fun! Lifeguards and Swim Counselors serve during Girls Camp, Mother-Daughter Camps, and private rentals.

This role can be residential or hourly. If you live locally to Skyland, we are happy to discuss flexible  hours throughout the summer and work within your schedule. Our hourly needs may vary from week to week, depending on the programming at camp.

The overall responsibility of the Skyland Aquatics team is to help ensure the smooth and effective operation of all aspects of the Aquatics Program. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Develop and deliver an Aquatics program that is appropriate for the ages and abilities of the campers.

    • Write lesson plans that meet desired camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
    • Evaluate the abilities of campers and participating staff.
    • Deliver progressive swim activities.
    • Evaluate the success of the Aquatics program.

Supervise and guard all aquatic activities.

    • Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent and manage injuries.
    • Provide rescues as needed.
    • Utilize first aid and CPR and other emergency management services as needed.
    • Understand and implement an appropriate response to changes in water conditions or weather conditions affecting aquatic activities.
    • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.

Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the Aquatic program area.

    • Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
    • Clean pool area daily keeping it free of hazards and debris.
