Skyland Summer 2067
After celebrating more than 100 Years of Skyland (wasn’t that reunion AMAZING?!), we are so excited to launch Skyland Summer 2018 in just a few short weeks.
We bet you won’t guess what we’re ALSO doing. We are ALSO thinking about Summer 2067.
That’s right … 2067, which is when Skyland will be celebrating its sesquicentennial.
Have you ever heard of the term Cathedral Thinking? It is defined it as “a far-reaching vision, a well thought-out blueprint, and a shared commitment to long-term implementation.”
With cathedrals such as Notre Dame taking more than 100 years to build, those who laid the first bricks never saw the final project completed. But their vision and passion were passed down to those who came after them in the hopes that the work, the passion, and the vision would continue.
At Skyland, we believe that we are part of a multi-century, shared commitment to the long-term creation and continuation of Skyland Camp for Girls. As stewards of Skyland, our commitment is always to honor our past, while planning for the future.
We are humbled as we consider the vision and passion that Granny Harris had when she launched Skyland in 1917. She would be so proud to know that, more than 100 years later, Skyland continues to thrive, and to serve girls and their families in ways that are relevant to the needs of “today’s girls.”
As we continue to look toward the future, and envision Skyland in 25, 50 and 100 years, we are grateful to those who went before us, and we are serious about our responsibility now … to ensure that Skyland Camp for Girls lives on for another 100 years.
Cathedral Thinking poses this question: “What is it that you would do in these times that would only bring benefit to future generations?”
(What if we lived every day of our life answering that question?? That’s for another blog post, or for discussion around campfire!)
Our goal is to ensure that programming remains relevant to “today’s girls” (whether it’s girls of 1950, 2018, or 2067), that Skyland continues to thrive (in a world of competing attention-grabbing opportunities), and that girls leave Skyland Hill feeling inspired to change the world (as Skyland campers and alumnae have done for more than 100 years!)
Skyland Camp for Girls … Changing the world one conversation, one experience, <one century!>, and one camper at a time.
