Tips For Returning Campers, Part 5: Always Keep Trying New Things

We’re getting closer and closer to welcoming you to camp again this year, and we couldn’t be more excited. In case you missed our last four posts, we have been sending out advice for returning campers so each girl can have her best camp season yet.

We have just one more aspect of coming back to camp to address, and it’s an important one.

Every year, girls try new things at Skyland. Part of the camp experience is pushing yourself to step outside of the comfort zone and grow. Returning campers are still encouraged to try new things at Skyland- and there are plenty of new activities to try!

It makes sense if you’re excited to get back to archery if that activity was the most thrilling or came to you most naturally last year. You are absolutely encouraged to grow your passion for crafts, musical theater, singing, horseback riding, exploring the outdoors, swimming, and more. But why not give another activity a shot, even if you didn’t like it last year? Maybe during last year’s camp-out, you snuggled in the middle of the tent safely between two friends. This year, you could take that edge spot with a view of the stars.

Remember, you can even suggest games and activities as a returning camper. Make up a comedy routine with your cabin, or invent a new pool game and see if you can get others to participate. Being inventive and trying to create fresh experiences at camp is great practice for becoming a counselor and a great way to step up as a leader this season.
