Tips For Returning Campers, Part 3: You’re Never Too Old For Mail Call

Remember how much you looked forward to opening a letter from home at mail-call during your first summer at Skyland? Sending letters can be a great way to stay connected and build memories around summer camp.

Mail Call isn’t just for new campers feeling homesick during their first week of camp! It is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends back home. It also helps you stay aware of your thoughts and feelings by writing them out and confiding in someone you trust.

Camp is full of new experiences no matter how many times you’ve returned, and it can be a lot to take in. Writing a quick summary of your week and checking in with your feelings with the support of your parents or siblings can help keep you energized and happy at camp.  Postcards are also a great way to keep in touch with folks back home, without having to write a long letter.  Consider bringing some fun postcards pre-stamped with you, or buy a couple in the camp store!

You can also ask your parents to hold onto your letters home to help you remember your experiences at Skyland for years to come. You’ll definitely want to look back- maybe even when you’re sending your daughter to camp!
